Snapchat wants to replace check-ins with geofilters. | Android Central

As the paradigm for social media continues to shift, features lead to major shifts. The once dominant FourSquare took a hit when Facebook added check-ins. Now, the ever-popular snapchat app seems to be encroaching on everyone’s turf. Having added groups to it’s app, it’s now allowing geofilters overlays, essentially replacing the need to check in.

Snapchat says that it has been testing the new location overlays in Los Angeles and New York and the official blog doesn’t reveal if the the geofilter feature will become available outside those two urban areas. According to the company, your location information won’t be stored. However, to get the location overlays to show up on your snaps, you do need to enable location information on your phone for that purpose. So now my friends, you can group sext and let people know where you are while you do!
