Modillian, a startup based in Israel, seeks to provide traditional watch wearers with some of the convenience of digital technology. And I say some because given what they’ve come up with, there’s serious limitations for now. Rather than integrate the technology into (yet another) smart watch concept, the firm developed a Bluetooth-enabled buckle that can be used with any 20mm watch strap. Bring notifications to any decent sized watch? Some might find utility with that.
So those limitations I referenced? The buckle is a notification-only device than full-fledged digital accessory. It connects to your smart phone through the Bluetooth interface. The buckle then vibrates upon various events from phone calls to calendar notifications. These notifications can be controlled via an app on the connected device. At $200 and only in crowd-funding stage, there’s plenty of questions marks on how it will fare.
