How do you transport a giant, 240-ton mining truck? A Mercedes. - Incredible Photo - Road & Track

Normally I go for sports car, new entries and other novelties when covering cars and bikes, but this photo got my attention and held it.

Mining trucks, those giant, building-sized dump trucks that make the human beings operating them look like Lego figures, can weigh hundreds of tons. Diesel Power magazine, in a 2008 article on the world’s 10 largest dump trucks, pointed out that these vehicles’ massive dimensions generally call for them to be shipped to work locations in pieces and then assembled on site, as they’re nigh impossible to transport over the road in one piece. But then there’s Mercedes with another idea…

A Mercedes-Benz Actros semi tractor, which, in heavy-duty trim, has a max capacity of up to 250 tons seems to have been up to the task. The photo above is real. It was tweeted by the official MBUSA account on Twitter last week. Now THAT’s haulin’ ass!
