It is absolutely amazing what you can find on the internet. Kickstarter and Indiegogo now seems to be a great proving ground for products and funding. In an interesting twist, these sights now seem to be a treasure trove for larger companies who think they can steal, copy, clone and beat the little guys to the punch. Do you remember Pressy? I sure do. They had a great idea and a great product. They got people’s attention, funded and unfortunately missed their first shipping deadline. Phone maker Xiaomi must have really appreciated the smartphone headset jack dongle because they just announced one that’s identical.
Functionally similar to Pressy, Xiaomi’s accessory plugs into your smartphone’s headphone jack and can be configured to perform up to 10 different tasks based on different click types. One big difference between Xiaomi’s device and Pressy, though, is price and availability: Pressy retails for $27, while Xiaomi intends to launch its button worldwide on April 8 for 4.9 Yuan ($0.79) to capitalize on Pressy’s shipment delays. FOUL!
Pressy isn’t too enthused about the company’s new accessory. A company spokesperson said, “We have IP rights for the design and functionality of Pressy, and are considering our next moves to handle the situation.” Um, get to court NOW.
