If you’ve watched all the episodes leading up to the finale this week, enjoy this post and the article I’ve attached. If not, STOP HERE unless you’re the type to pre-game a show. To each their own I say. I’ve also been telling anyone who’ll listen how truly glorious and fucked up this show is. One of course is completely entwined in the other.
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson star as a pair of Louisiana detectives investigating a disturbing ritualistic murder over the course of 17 years. But what you get is a show so fraught with tension, details and disturbing monologues that the violence, grit and plotline could almost take second chair. Almost. There are so many things to keep straight: details, timelines, thoughts, perspectives. The cast just works as do the locations, and production. Have we met some of the characters before (yes!). Is one of our leads the killer? (who knows!) Why did Marty say THAT to Rust after he did his wife a favor? Why did Marty’s daughter draw that? Why does the show’s billboard look like that? Why is it called “True Detective” (singular as opposed to plural) So many questions worth asking and more!
There are wikis abound with theories about the ending, back-stories and more. The DailyBeast offers up some of those in the article, but I would encourage you to check out the wikis. After you’ve watched the show and are ready to watch it again!
