The flop that has been the original “Galaxy” Gear (smartwatch) has a successor now. Spec upgrades, design changes, and even the operating systems have been addressed. Will this one be a success or will it suffer the price-cutting, liquidations, and mass returns that the original was fated with?

The Gear 2 & Neo are running the Tizen OS — an open-source OS Samsung played a big hand in developing. It’s the primary reason that “Galaxy” is no longer part of the product name. The hardware has been bumped – a full 1.0 Ghz, battery modifications, camera changes etc. The display is still a 1.63″ S-AMOLED and the camera is a 2.0 MP with auto-focus. The camera has been removed from the band and placed into the body (excellent choice!). An IR sensor has been added for remote capabilities. The watch is even sporting a heart rate monitor and is now water resistant.

More details than that will follow, including price. My hope is that they keep it relatively low and let the market get comfortable with Tizen, which we might see popping up on phones shortly.
