Add this to a long list of things you might not immediately think to patents, but it appears Apples looking to formalize a feature that changes the headset volume based on how close you are to the phone. If the thing switched to full speaker when it comes to rest face up on my table I’d call that a win. Either way, they’ve put it in writing.

Basically by making use of the various sensors in the phone, such as the camera, ambient light sensor and such, this patent describes a system in which the phone will be smart enough to detect how far away you are from the phone, and increase its volume accordingly. It’s not exactly groundbreaking but at the same time it’s a nice addition to be incorporated into the phones in the future.
